Guerra: "The last few weeks have been very positive"
The midfielder talks about the showing against Girona FC
Diego López scored for Valencia CF in the second half, finishing a superb cross from Foulquier at the far post, while Stuani, with a header, equalized for Girona FC in a closely contested match at Estadio de Montilivi.
Valencia CF arrived with the ambition of maintaining their positive run of results against an attacking-minded Girona FC, who were eager to win after five matches without a victory. The team showed a strong competitive spirit from the start, with Javi Guerra producing the first shot on goal, though his attempt went over the crossbar after deflecting off a defender.
The match saw early chances for both sides, and in the 12th minute, Miovski had Girona’s clearest opportunity—a one-on-one against Mamardashvili—but the striker’s effort missed the target.
Shortly after, Sadiq went down in Girona’s penalty area around the 15th minute, appealing for a penalty, but the referee waved play on. Valencia CF continued to press high and organized, winning over 80% of duels and displaying bravery and tactical clarity in a demanding away fixture.
In the 23rd minute, Sadiq had Valencia’s best chance of the half, firing a first-time shot from the penalty spot after a deflection, only for Gazzaniga to make a fantastic reflex save.
As Girona grew into the game, Diakhaby made a crucial clearance in a dangerous situation inside Valencia’s penalty area. The match remained finely balanced, and in the 39th minute, after another penalty appeal from Danjuma was ignored, Javi Guerra came close with a low driven shot that narrowly missed the target.
Valencia CF ended the first half creating more attacking opportunities, frequently pushing into Girona’s area, but the teams went into the break still level at 0-0.
After halftime, Carlos Corberán’s side resumed their attacking efforts. In an early chance, Gayà delivered a cross into the six-yard box for André Almeida, who headed wide.
Girona FC responded immediately—first with a Danjuma solo run, and then with a dangerous header that Mamardashvili saved brilliantly, preventing a goal that Montilivi was already celebrating.
Girona scored less than ten minutes later through Stuani (1-1).
Valencia CF earns a valuable point away from home and now shifts focus to the next match, which will take place on March 30 at 18:30, against RCD Mallorca at Mestalla.
